The Heart – A Poem

Barbed Heart

The prison of my heart is protected
by shadows and barbed wire.
Demons and secrets. Fears and desire.
How you found your way through, I’ll never know
but I’m glad that you did, you’re a formidable foe.
My heart fought back, it tried to keep you at bay.
Then a little love would creep in
The demons swore you would pay.
Until slowly, it began to get bright.
The barbs started to retract,
and the shadows gave way to light.

  1. Truly in love with your writing. I resonated so deeply with this and the way you use words so intricately and yet they flow in such a natural way. Thank you for sharing. xx
