A mask is what I wear
to shield pain from
prying eyes.

To cover feelings of
uncertainty I have when
you get too close.

No matter how I hurt
the mask still smiles
Longing to free me
from my mental cage.

How I wish you could
see. Me.

  1. I stumbled across this poem on Poetreecreations’s blog and I couldn’t help but to share my feedback with the author. I was very impressed because in such short words you described my everyday emotions and character. I feel as though I have to walk around with my guard up, hiding the truth and covering it up with a fake smile. I chose to become a subscriber to your blog because I am willing to see what else your thoughts have to offer 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for your feedback and the subscription. I’ll try my best not to disappoint. I feel as though we all wear masks. Masks in front of friends, family, coworkers, classmates. Secrets that we hold close to ourselves just to get through the day to day. I’m glad others could relate. That’s the beauty of words. – K. =)
